Beautiful Headband Wigs for Work | LuvMeHair Review

Are you looking for a wig that’s easy to throw on and looks great? Well, I’m excited to share that my hair routine for my daily work days just got so much easier. So when I tried this beautiful, easy to install, wig out by Luvmehair, I knew I had to share this with you!

Luvmehair is a brand that has an amazing selection of affordable luxury wigs that you can choose from for honestly ANY occassion! If you are looking for a wig that is easy to put on for a quick morning, and it looks realistic, this is absolutely the brand that you want to look in to. So the piece that has recently made my morning SUPER EASY is the 22 inch deep wave headband wig. What I love about this wig is that it’s an amazing option for beginners. I also love how realistic this wig looks.

This company also has a great selection of  affordable headband wigs HERE.

Mind you, I’ve never worn a wig before EVER and I was a bit apprehensive. However, I’m sold now. For me this wig is going to be just what I use when I need an easy resolution for a bad hair day or just when I need a quick cute style for the day. It’s easy to use, feels extremely secure, and goes on very easily. The above picture is the wig when it’s not fluffed and combed out. And the picture below shows the wig once it is combed out.

Another thing that I love about this set is that it comes with multiple head bands, a little brush to brush your edges down, bobby pins. Essentially, everything you need to lay your wig easily and securely for your work day!

The great thing about this wig is that you can style it in multiple ways. You can pull it back into a ponytail, back into a bun, or just wear it down. Like I mentioned before, you will get an extremely realistic look with this wig. I also can’t wait to brush it out. I’m sure it will give a very different beautiful look! Stay tuned for my full review on YOUTUBE on this wig! SUBSCRIBE to be notified when the new video goes up!

How Wearing My Natural Hair to Work Became More Than Just A Style

When I started in Corporate America, I was told a few times that when I wore my straight weave, I looked very put together. However, when I wore my natural hair out, I was not told those things. Rude. Those comments left me uneasy that a texture other than mine created a perception of professionalism that was ” more well-kept” than my own. After those comments, I made very intentional efforts not to wear those silky smooth Brazilian bundles to the workplace. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with Brazilian or any other straight weave. However this has been my decision after my experiences. So now I diligently practice natural updos, twist outs, slick buns, and rod sets to wear into work. I use Sundays to prepare my coils to make their statement in Corporate America for the week.

Wearing my natural hair to work became more than just a style.

People use their clothes, demeanor, and/or rhetoric to craft how they want the world to see them. I planned to do just the same with my hair at work. I knew that for the corner of this earth my coworkers would get a dose of this natural hair when I’m in the office.

Even now, I’m at a point where I actually don’t want to wear my hair straight. I can typically predict the comments that would come with that. As I progress in my career, I believe that I take on a role for those around me to see that their hair can look PROFESSIONAL in it’s most natural state.

Some people may think this is not a big deal. Some may think that people don’t experience issues when wearing their natural hair at work. If you think that’s the case, check out the CROWN ACT study.

It was shortly after having started in Corporate America, I realized I will use my hair to create a statement… That natural hair is professional.

Back in 2017, I committed to sharing my journey of trying natural styles out in the office. I committed to sharing hair styles, clothing styles, and my journey in corporate America with women who look like me. Ultimately, my goal has been to inspire someone to feel more comfortable with embracing their hair in professional settings. And my hope is for you to inspire someone in the office too!

The Natural Hair Clip-Ins You Didn’t Know You Needed

I absolutely love a protective style! I’m on a journey of developing a natural hair routine and consistent protective style that’s easy and convenient for my work week. I’ll continue to share more as I try new techniques and styles! I’ve spoken a number of times about how I am testing products out and trying out protective styles. AND LADIES, these clip ins are everything for an easy and low-maintenance hair routine. Knappy Hair Extensions, has beautiful natural hair extensions that I will give you my full and honest review of below!

Truth be told, my use of the clips has been very minimal since the collab. So I made it a point to try different hairstyles with these beauties! I had no idea just how versatile these natural clip-ins are. Now I see how versatile, easy, and convenient they are. I am in love!

Kinky Coarse Clip-Ins” from Knappy Hair Extension

This particular set is called the “Kinky Coarse Clip-Ins” from Knappy Hair Extensions. It comes with ten pieces and amounts to a total of 7 oz. of hair. The lengths included are: 18”, 20”, and 22” . This set was perfect for the amount of hair that’s necessary for the half up half down hairstyle.

I consider those lengths to be fairly long and a perfect fit for my own hair length. There is a lot that I can do with these clip-in extensions. The styles that I have worn in the past with these include a two-strand twist out and more recently wand-curled by my hairstylist.

I really love how this style came out! Below, there are two photos, one where my hair is stretch out and the other where my hair is curly from my wand-curl:

The products used are all Mizani hair products.

What Are The Benefits Of Baobab? Let’s Try The Pantene Hydrating Glow Collection

This post is sponsored by Pantene. All opinions are my own.

The natural hair experience, is a journey for sure. One thing that I love about this journey is finding products that work well for my hair routine. This year marks 10 years of me being natural and I swear I learn something new regularly. Lately, trying out new products and brands to venture out and learn more about ingredients that my hair takes well to has been fun and exciting. I will say that since my hair is so coily, I love products that contain ingredients that are hydrating and moisturizing to help combat dryness. When the Hydrating Glow with Baobab Essence Collection by Pantene Nutrient Blends came out and I saw the reviews, I had to get my hands on it ASAP.

What is intriguing about this line is the variety of hair textures that it’s applicable to. I will be honest, I can get skeptical about trying new lines that aren’t geared SPECIFCALLY for natural coily and curly hair textures. However, what’s so pertinent about this line are the hydrating ingredients. This collection is also free of sulfates, parabens, dye and mineral oil, which is extremely important to prevent hair dryness

For instance, sulfates may strip your hair from it’s natural oils leaving your hair dry and unhealthy. Products that contain parabens can cause hair dryness. Also, mineral oil in products may minimize your hair’s ability to absorb moisture, resulting in dryness. Ultimately, since this line contains none of these, trying the Pantene Nutrient Blends Hydrating Glow Collection with Baobab Essence was an easy yes for me! You can purchase it here!

Pantene Hydrating Glow Collection Review

Hydrating Glow Collection Products

The Hydrating Glow Collection contains 3 products: shampoo, conditioner, and serum. Please get your hands on this line because this collection smells DIVINE. Sweet but not overpowering

The Hydrating Glow Shampoo contains pro vitamin B5, antioxidants and Baobab Essence which help to cleanse your hair and scalp and my hair felt moisturized.
The Hydrating Glow Conditioner is not too heavy, but it’s not too light either. It does a good job of penetrating the hair shaft. It also smells really great. Overall it leaves my hair feeling soft and moisturized.
The Hydrating Glow Serum is SUPER light. It doesn’t have a sticky feeling, and you can use on wet or dry hair. I’d prefer to use this product on wash and goes or wet styles. This serum can help to add additional moisture and glow to your hair routine between washes.

Baobab Oil Benefits

As a Nigerian, it’s intriguing when I come across ingredients from my motherland. I’m an avid user of shea butter, so learning about baobab oil, and that it’s from Tanzania was exciting. The Baobob tree is where the oil is taken from and can grow for over 1,000 years and is known as the “Tree of Life.” The reason why it can grow so long is due to it’s ability to store massive amounts of water.

This tree provides a multitude of uses to the Tanzanian community. One being the use of the baobab oil which many Tanzanian women throughout the years have incorporated into their beauty routines. The oil helps to combat dryness for the skin and hair.

Hair Routine

WHERE DOES YOUR HAIR ROUTINE STEM FROM?

My hair routine derives from my mother and older sisters. Before I got relaxers/perms as a child my mom and sisters would do my hair. I would spend my weekend mornings sitting in front of either my mom or sisters as parting, combing, and moisturizing my hair was very routine to get my hair into a protective style of some sort which became a huge part of my weekly hair routine.

WHAT TECHNIQUES DO YOU INCORPORATE INTO YOUR HAIR ROUTINE?

Now that I’m older I incorporate a lot of care and patience into my hair routine. Detangling and moisturizing my hair from ends to the roots is critical when doing any style! And I always love to ensure that when detangling, I’m incorporating products that focus on hydration and moisture so that I lessen breakage as much as possible.

HOW HAS YOUR HAIR ROUTINE EVOLVED?

The process of taking the time to wash, moisturize, detangle and then style my hair has stuck with me since I was a child. I do like to take the time to care for my hair. Not only does it make me feel good, I know it’s ultimately good for my hair’s health and growth. I also prioritize finding products and ingredients that are moisturizing and that make my hair feel and smell good. Check this line out, you will NOT be disappointed!

Natural Hair Products to Help Your Daily Hair Routine

Finding the right natural hair routine…

is so essential to the health and care of your hair. Over the past few years I aimed to find daily products to aid in my hair’s overall health. So I’ve found really beneficial hair tools that that help to ultimately reduce damage and retain length. But I always harp that finding what works best for your hair is literally a process. TRIAL AND ERROR MY FRIENDS. It’s a journey, that I truly believe involves self love, patience, and self care.

When I first went natural…

I would always look at other women’s hair. And I would try to mimic their curls through manipulation or I would try to take their whole hair routine and use it as my own. So time and time again I became frustrated at how tight my hair coiled and how much shrinkage I would have after a wash and go. However, after a few years of being natural I realized that an exact routine that works for someone else will not work for me. We are all uniquely made. Honestly it’s important to figure out what products, routines, and techniques truly work with your own hair. That is the complete beauty of this natural hair journey!

I truly believe the beauty of the natural hair process is…

learning what works best for the hair that we were given by God. It’s like a revitalization journey. For me it has been a hair rebirth lol…. So I never quite knew what my hair’s texture looked like. I let the sew-ins and weave go to embrace my natural coil’s in it’s full entirety! Don’t get me wrong I love weave lol. However, I truly felt like the process of going natural was simply a way of embracing my hair’s truth. And throughout this process I’ve found hair products and tools that allow me to embrace my hair in it’s FULL natural state. I also have met an awesome community of women through my IG page to share this journey with. And let me tell you, it’s been special!

I hope these products help you…

throughout your journey. And this is just a reminder to love your natural hair journey, be patient with your journey, and embrace it at every single phase.

ENJOY!

My Experience with Wearing Natural Hair in the Office

By (@Corporate_Curly)

As a woman of color in Corporate America, navigating through the confines of what is deemed “professional,” at times creates an unusual burden when embracing natural coils on the job.

This “burden” is not uncommon for women with curly or coily hair, and it’s one that can cause emotions of feeling “stuck” in a predicament where you are compromised to mask or change your natural hair to divert attention from yourself at work. I’ve experienced these feelings of being “stuck” at work in the past, and I can relate and I truly aim to help women who have trouble finding hairstyles that are right for them, make them feel confident, and simply work for them at their daily jobs.

My natural hair journey began in 2010,

and since then I’ve tried a variety of styles from braids, twists, to fros, and more, in an attempt to find what works best for me. Fast forward a few years later through grad school and working in Corporate America, I’d completely strayed away from wearing my natural hair all together. I did this because I didn’t want to jeopardize my “professionalism” by wearing my natural hair to work.

It wasn’t until I was two and a half years into my career that I began questioning why it wasn’t “right” or “professional” for me to wear the hair that simply grows out of my head to the place I spend the most time? During this time I also felt more empowered to bring my full self to work. So I knew for me and my professional journey that bringing my full self to work also meant wearing my natural hair, unapologetically.

It wasn’t until I was two and a half years into my career that I began questioning why it wasn’t “right” or “professional” for me to wear the hair that simply grows out of my head to the place I spend the most time?

It was after year two and a half

that I took the “big leap” and wore my fro to work. Big leap, sounds daunting huh? Seriously, it was, and it is a feeling that many other women with coily/curly hair feel. Looking back, it was nerve-wrecking, and on that day I was very self-conscious and a bit insecure, but on that day I also felt LIBERATED. Did I care what people thought, yes. Did I want them to think differently of me because of my hair, no.

When I wore my natural hair, it was actually a HUGE relief and
once I got through my perceived “fear” of wearing my own hair into work, I started to embrace it more. I began to share my experience with other professional women who were on the journey of embracing their natural texture at work. Whenever I get questions on how I “took the leap”

I always explain these three things:

  1. First and foremost, educate yourself about the health of your hair. Especially if you are a newly transitioning natural, your routines and products will likely be different from the products used while you had a relaxer/perm.
  2. Style your hair in ways that make YOU happy. Get any negative thoughts out of your head about your hair. Experiment and try different styles so that you know what makes you happy and feel most beautiful.
  3. And finally, JUST DO IT. You are the only person who can love your hair the most. Love whatever texture that you have. Once you begin to educate, embrace, and love your hair nothing anyone can tell you should matter about your natural texture.

From that first day that I wore my natural texture to work,

I knew that my confidence and professionalism trumped any hair style that I wore into the office. Always know that whatever style you have, whether it’s straight, curly, coily, locs, or braided ensure your hair is groomed in whatever style you decide to wear. And what I learned is to believe and understand that your hair doesn’t diminish any ounce of professionalism that you bring to the workplace!

I’ve included my top three styles by maintenance level (from low to high) that I’ve tried out and love to wear at work.

Natural Hairstyles I Love for Work

(None of the pictures are owned by the author )

The Natural Updo | Maintenance: Medium Natural updo styles are great, because they are extremely easy to manage and can last an entire week or longer. This style is my favorite because of the convenience and medium maintenance. Natural updo styles are great, because they are extremely to manage and can last an entire week or longer. This style is my favorite because of the versatility and medium maintenance.

Twist Out/ Braid Out | Maintenance: Medium

Braid outs are also one of my top favorite styles as well! I love the volume and fun that comes with wearing a braid out! But unfortunately braid outs can take a lot of time to style, but do not last very long. In my experience, my braid and twist outs can last up to two days for me

Twists | Maintenance: Low
Twists are such a great hair do if you are looking for an easy, convenient, and long lasting style.

Hair Styles for Work: Natural Updo

Finding hair styles that I feel good in…

and help protect my hair has been a journey to say the least! For those who are new to the natural game, protective styles are defined as: “simply a style that protects the ends of your hair, helping to decrease tangling, shedding and breakage” (Mademnoire.com). I must say that protective styles are probably one of the main reasons why my hair has consistently maintained it’s length and thickness. There are so many options for protective styles, but a style that I’ve been LOVING are natural updos. I’ve you’ve never seen them, or think you have not, think of Janelle Monae and her signature look. Her natural updos are complete #hairgoals.

In practicing on my own hair,

I’ve recently discovered the versatility in sculpting  beautiful natural updos. These styles remind me of handcrafted, textured works of art. There are a few different ways to sculpt natural updos. I’ve listed a few of my favorites below:

Image result for natural updos

Twists: Updos constructed with individual twists still in tact, tucked to form a twisted, tucked style.

Image result for natural updosTwist Out: The trick to a successful twisted out updo, is to ensure that your twists are very defined. I like to use a defining leave in conditioner, specifically conditioner creams that are heavy. However, it mainly depends on your preference and what your hair takes well to. My hair tends to do well with heaver creams, because of the thickness of my hair. Once your twists are defined, you will need to twist and tuck girl!

Blown Out: Updos that are created simply on blown out hair create a very  voluminous style.(No images are owned by me)

If you tried an updo out, leave a comment on your tips to creating the perfect look!

Enjoy!
